In this age of COVID-19 Anastasia will by cycling alone for teen Congolese moms, in partnership with HOLD DRC (https://www.holddrc.org/), who are enrolled in a year long transformational program, being given a second chance to change the narrative of their stories.

Cycling in solitude to an Audience of One

Having returned from a timely and productive two week trip to the Congo DRC in March, I began to ask the Lord for creativity and wisdom as to how I might be able to help with the pandemic needs of the teen moms we work with in Congo?

For years we have cycled in an all women’s cycling venue, Cycle the WAVE, (Women Against Violence Everywhere) in Seattle with 1500 other women cyclists.

That was ‘then’.

This is ‘now’.

Oftentimes when I am blow drying my hair in the morning, ideas out of nowhere seem to pop into my head. I call them ‘holy nudges‘.

The current ‘holy nudge‘ was to host my own cycling venue calling it ‘To an Audience of One‘. I cycled in solitude asking people to donate $59 towards an Emergency Fund for each teen mom we work with in Congo to be able to purchase protective gear as they go out into the villages with their megaphones at 5 a.m. communicating the need for preventive behavior as well as being able to pass out masks and gloves. The Coronavirus pandemic is currently spreading throughout the Congo DRC.

A generous portion of the sign up fee goes towards the needed tuition so the Congolese teen moms can complete their year long commitment at HOLD (www.holddrc.org). Their commitment becomes foundational in their development enabling them to change to narrative of their story.
